Week 2: The Lord who Gives Refuge
Main Text: Ruth 2:1-23
Description: Newly arrived in Bethlehem as destitute widows, Naomi and Ruth face a bleak, highly uncertain future. Yet, as Ruth steps out in faith to glean in the fields, she "happens" to find herself on land belonging to a worthy man of standing named Boaz. What looks like luck is actually the sweet, silent turning of God's providence. In this sermon, we watch an honorable Israelite cross cultural and legal boundaries to show scandalous kindness to a marginalized Moabite outsider. As Boaz speaks reassuringly "upon her heart" and invites her to his table, we see a beautiful foreshadowing of Jesus welcoming gentile sinners to dine with Him. Be encouraged to not grow weary in doing good, knowing that safety, peace, and full reward await those who take refuge under the wings of Yahweh.
